Developers just make new games instead of adding big expansions. Something I find so sad about games is that very few live on. Unlike most people who probably will have forgotten many or most of their games. I can imagine in, like, ten or twenty years it would be fun to look at my collection and view the games I have played.

It's about having a record of your progress, achievements, and experiences.

To me, Trophies are about taking something else than just memories with me when I've completed the games and permanently stop playing them. I just play everything, get what I can (typically focusing on hard tasks) and accept that I simply don't have the interest in playing a dungeon 10,000,000 times in hopes one of those runs drops X or Y item I need. I think once you find what does and does not work for you the experience becomes much better.Īfter that, it really just depends on how into the culture you get. These can suck, where as playing a bunch of games like Shaq Fu, where you literally just play, are a lot of fun.įrom there, I'll often opt out of needlessly long tasks, things like the journal in Moonlighter, but do some of the harder ones like beating every boss without taking damage. Some games have annoying tasks (you must do exactly this thing a specific way to get the platinum in one go), needlessly challenging (be number one in the world, play 10,000 rounds, etc) or change how you play (Lawbreakers). Something like Steins Gate is ideal, since you can platinum it in 45 minutes but they never experience the actual title and that is a shame, since it's an amazing story.įrom there, the literal what you play has a huge impact on it. Like, the prevailing mentality for trophy/achievement hunters is to maximize time and effort. I think it depends where you fall in terms of what you play, the games you literally play, what you think is important and so forth. In some ways I long for the days when consoles didn't have achievements (basically Nintendo consoles) but yet again, playing my switch these days feel sort of lackluster since there is no definitive system to track your achievements aside from using achievement systems (quest logs) built into the game. It's daunting but a good challenge nonetheless. Perhaps this is the way to strengthen my attention span and dedication and make it was when I was a child.Īnother problem is that there seems to be A LOT of trophies and most of these trophies belong to massive games. I'm not ready to accept that my attention span is too short to finish games anymore, so maybe trophies are the cure for a person like me. There's this very minor guilt that eats away at me every time I buy a new game without completing the ones I already own. I'm all for playing games for the relaxation but since I spend all my recreational time gaming, I feel like I should have something to show for it. I'm starting to feel like a game is incomplete unless I achieve every notable activity in it. When I was younger I didn't care about trophies or achievements but now as an adult I feel like chasing them and getting the platinum trophy for each game should be something I should aim for.
